BlownAway - Windsurfing for schools

We are experienced providers of learn-to-windsurf-courses for school groups up to 34 students. Safety is paramount for us - our WNZ qualified instructors have first aid certificates and equipment, students are fitted with wetsuits and lifejackets, and courses are held in a very safe location. It is a prerequisite that all course participants are confident in the water.

Lesson plans are completely flexible and can be tailored to your wishes. In addition to the windsurfing instruction we can explain how sails work, what creates our winds, and how to read weather maps, and how to put these theoretical concepts into practice during windsurfing. We encourage question and answer sessions at the end of each day. Students are partnered up for on-water practise and under close supervision at all times.

An example plan for a four-day course, two hours per day, can look like this:

Day 1

Will give your students an introduction to windsurfing, parts of the windsurfer and how they work, and basic board control first on the simulator, then on water.

Day 2

Will cover basic sailing theory, points of sail, upwind sailing, steering and safety. Students will be coached as they go, using both the simulator and practising in the water.

Day 3

Will build on what was learned the previous days, improving and refining skills. Most of this day will take place on the water.

Day 4

Will make use of the students' new skills by putting them into action during a fun relay race. This will be followed by free sailing and on-water coaching, placing emphasis on answering all those last minute questions that have come up with getting more and more used to the windsurfer.

The cost for each course is calculated based on normal tuition rates, but will be cheaper, depending on the number of participants, session length and number of sessions booked. Please contact BlownAway for a quote.

Many Auckland schools (Macleans, Sancta Maria, Howick, Pakuranga, and Rosehill Colleges, to name but a few) book us regularly as part of their water sports programmes, and will be happy to provide feedback.

After-school and last-period windsurfing coaching can be arranged for school windsurfing teams.
